Our picks: Warrior for a first character, Summoner → Archon for a caster, and Dragoon → Dragonlord for an offensive Spear build. Use the rankings below for the job you want to do.
Best base classes for beginners
Warrior
The simplest starting recommendation. Defensive breathing room lets you learn attack and block timing before building around risk.
Archer · Spear
Choose Archer for a focused ranged kit or Spear if you already want Dragonlord. Both have clear branch destinations.
Mage · Thief · Fist · Bard
Good choices once you know the role: spells, critical attacks, martial skills or party support. Plan Energy and recovery before pushing difficulty.
Best Super classes and Ultra destinations
| Goal | Our recommendation | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Magic damage | Summoner → Archon | A direct summoning route with a clear offensive kit. Our default Mage choice. |
| Debuffs and magic | Hexer → Doomcaller | Pick it when weakening enemies is the part of the Mage kit you want. |
| Spear damage and sustain | Dragoon → Dragonlord | Dragon Dive covers groups; Wyrm Impaler penetrates armor; Dragon’s Blood adds recovery. |
| Defensive Warrior | Sentinel → Aegis | Counters and protection suit a frontline role. |
| Focused Archer damage | Deadeye → Godshot | Our Archer choice when one priority target matters more than a falcon or a cannon theme. |
| Party healing | Minstrel → Songweaver | A dedicated recovery direction for a party that already brings damage. |
| Fist progression | Oni → Shura | A clear demonic skill route, with its Sigil target in Act 5. |
For Torment, we favor the damage route you can sustain: Archon for a caster and Dragonlord for Spear. Finish its Ultra skills, equip recovery and solve the route’s opening danger before replacing the whole class.
Race tier list
| Tier | Races | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| S | Dragonborn · Nightborne · Tideborn | Extra durability or repeated recovery for difficult runs. |
| A | Vesper · Celestine · Seraph · Stonekin | Strong role matches: magic, party support or Fist damage. |
| B | Human · Goblin · Dwarf · Ashborn · Sylvan · Slime · Mushroom | Useful leveling, farming or specialist effects. Keep one that is already helping your progression. |
| Event pick | Dullahan | A physical event option acquired through Dullahan’s Pact. |
Human earns a higher priority while leveling; Goblin does the same on resource runs. The table ranks general combat usefulness, so a lower row can still be the right tool for your goal.
Best traits
| Goal | Pick | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| All-round | Prodigy | Broad bonuses if you already have it. Set a spin budget before chasing its 1% roll chance. |
| Magic | Arcane Spark | A direct fit for a magic kit that needs a better opening turn. |
| Farming | Fortune’s Favor | Useful when reward farming is the goal; it does not supply a direct survival bonus. |
| Progression | Quick Study | Keep it while leveling rather than discarding it because of its rarity. |
| Defense | Iron Soul | Consider it when repeated stun, burn or poison is disrupting runs. |
| Defense | Survivor | The threshold matters. It is not an extra life and does not protect every lethal hit. |
Prodigy is our all-round choice. Use Arcane Spark for a caster opener, Quick Study while leveling and Survivor when a failed defense is costing lives.
